The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new directive, and comes into force by 2018. It replaces national data protection legislation and will apply to all EU member states.

The “scaremongering” if I may describe it that way, follows the usual approach by many when new regulations are announced or published.  Despite this, the implementation of the new GDPR does not have to be as complex, challenging or costly, as such publications suggest.
